Frederik and I went to Angoulême for the first time, and it was AMAZING!

Some souvenir sketches:

The friendly people of Pinceel offered us a free ride in their van,
in return for some help to build their stand.

I spent the first day in the pavilion du nouveau monde, between the altenative comics and smaller editors. So much to see! So difficult to choose! Aaaa!

The Flemish stand was by far the niftiest one, it was a café with books instead of beer! Here are some pictures from Linda-of-the-Mekanik.

I didn't take pics, too busy signing my book. ;)

where I partied with Craig Thompson (yes!) and Simmi from Iceland!

With some delay: Here's how Strip Turnhout went...

- The expo

For this expo, I worked together with Transmedia. I animated 5 comics, there was a 3D-animation and we set up a construction to create a weird sense of depth and spacy-ness.

- Signing books! Loads of books! :)

Tonight:

Op 22 december 2011 organiseert SKETCH ANTWERP (Sacha Eckes & Sam de Buysscher) & cultuurcentrum De Kern in Wilrijk een speciale editie - ‘SKETCH for Life!’ – ten voordele van de Studio Brussel-actie Music for Life. Je kan hier komen genieten van een unieke ervaring met gratis inkom.

De schouwburg van De Kern verandert die avond in een tekentempel, gecombineerd muziek, eten, drank en vooral veel sfeer! Vanaf 17.30 uur kan je in De Kern pizza’s komen eten voor het goeie doel.

Om 18.30 uur beginnen de kunstenaars te schetsen en worden die tekeningen verkocht aan democratische prijzen. De opbrengst gaat naar Music for Life.

Tussendoor zijn er nog muziekoptredens en om 22.00 start er een veiling met werken van de kunstenaars, door veilingmeester Stijn Vranken.

Als je wilt komen genieten van een avond waarin al je zintuigen worden geprikkeld en waarin je tegelijk een goed doel steunt, is dit zeker een avond die je niet kan missen.

The Book & Strip Turnhout

And here's the big news: Murphy's Miserable Space Adventures will be published shortly, by the amazing people of Oogachtend!!!

I improved my final project a bit and made a new cover. It will be a nice book with 96 pages of spacial misfortune and astroblubber and a fluorescent pink title on the cover! :D

The book will be presented this weekend at the Strip Turnhout festival, along with a little expo. All of this thanks to Sint-Lukas Beeldverhaal&Illustratie and Transmedia.

I will be there on saturday AND sunday to make nifty drawings in your copy. You can find me in the basement (I guess I'm still underground,hah!) being super excited (I haven't seen the printed book yet, so it will be a première for me too!)

I will also be sketchbattling there on sunday afternoon. Come and cheer for me!

I made a comic:

It's about a lonely guy who starts drinking.
Here's a little w.i.p. image.

And it appeared in BING,
a book featuring some nice illustrations & comics from 15 Sint-Lukas-students,
including the great Dulk who made the cover illustration!

The book was presented in the Belgian Comic Strip Center,during the matching expo. And on top of all that, it got some attention in the newspapers, hurray! ^^

De afgewerkte illustraties:

"I sat on my porch, looking out over the dunes to the Gulf ...
I'm still here, still watching the rockets take off."

"We swung around the earth, verifying all our systems,

It was like a skull that's been picked clean -that's the closest I can get."

as they pushed their mindless way up to the surface."

"There was a huge, blue-white streak of lightning that seemed like
the end of the world. It struck Richard, it enveloped him. The last

Nieuwste opdracht:
6 illustraties voor een kortverhaal voor volwassenen.
Ik koos 'I am the doorway' van Stephen King, zodat ik wat duistere, bevreemdende horrorprentjes kan maken!

Hier dus enkele stapjes tijdens het maken van de eerste illustratie.
Deze is helemaal nog niet zo eng, ons hoofdpersonage zit gewoon voor zijn huis naar de opstijgende raketten te kijken.

ondertussen is deze zo goed als af!

...en deze is al goed op weg.
Hier ontdenkt het hoofdpersonage dat hij een eh... ruimtevirus heeft opgelopen,
waardoor er plots buitenaardse ogen op zijn handen groeien.
Hopelijk komt de verbijsterde paniek een beetje over.
